How To Be Green
The easiest way to go green is by purchasing green power. Almost every supplier in the market offers a product in which a percentage of the power is generated using renewable resources like wind instead of fossil fuels. These products usually carry a small premium per kWh, but allow your company to claim the PR benefits of choosing renewable energy. EDGe can help you identify the most cost-effective green power product offered in the market.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) represent an investment in renewable generation. While purchasing a REC doesn’t guarantee that the power your facility consumes was generated using renewable resources, it does fund new generation projects, and represents the reduction in emissions of renewable versus conventional generation. Your EDGe advisor can help you decide if purchasing RECs fits into your organization’s overall green strategy.
Emissions Allowances and Credits, like carbon credits, SO2 allowances and NOx allowances, might be purchased to offset your facility’s carbon footprint or to comply with environment regulations aimed at acid rain or smog mitigation. Emissions allowances represent the right to emit carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) or other pollutants. Credits represent reductions in these emissions relative to an established baseline.
